Why, hello. Here we are a quarter of the way through the first hundred CDs. So, from August of 2001, here’s The Appleseed Cast’s Low Level Owl: Volume 1.
This is one of those ones I picked up during a phase I went through when all I wanted was stuff that wasn’t jazz or classical, but it was good to listen to at work. Good stuff to have on in the background. Other bands, like Tarentel and Godspeed You Black Emperor, put out great low-lying textural stuff around this same time. This one was on in a listening station (a what?) at Tower Records (at where?), and it was right in that some ballpark.
It never really caught on around my apartment, though, for some reason. It’s pretty good. It was nice to have it on as I did some things around my house the other night. It’s dark and moody. I liked it. It’s not great, not great enough for me to have sought out Low Level Owl: Volume 2 (also 2001) but it’s far from bad. I’ll certainly go back to it.
