2. 10,000 Maniacs: Candy Everybody Wants

Here we are again in 1993. I bought the “Candy Everybody Wants” CD single, not because I was a big 10,000 Maniacs fan, but because I was a big REM fan. In order to get to their cover “(Don’t Go Back to) Rockville,” there’s a Morrissey cover, “Every Day Is Like Sunday,” first.

Candy Everybody Wants

The lead track on this is off the “Our Time in Eden” album, which I’ll get back to soon; later today probably. It’s upbeat and poppy. Nothing to complain about really. The other B-Side, “Sally Ann” is slow and plodding, but pretty. A typical b-side, I guess.

That REM cover is just… okay. If you’re the market for someone doing that song, the original is the way to go, though, Natalie Merchant’s singing on it, as with most songs, really ain’t bad.
